Improving old photographs

I am often sent photos, for publication on my websites, that have been scanned from old photographs, which may be faded or have a colour-cast. They look like they cannot be used.

But Paint Shop Pro has some tools that can be used to improve such pictures.  Below is a thumbnail of a 'before and after' version of an F-101 Voodoo Fighter aircraft at RAF Bentwaters that was taken in the 1960s.

For this 'resurrection' effect, you could use:
Effects-Enhance Photo-Automatic Color Balance with Remove Colour Cast checked.
Alternatively, use Effects-Fade Correction.
I also used Effects-Sharpen a couple of times.

Click on the thumbnail to see a full-size version (still only 40kb) - it doesn't look possible! There is no trick, this is a genuine original that I was sent, and my own work with PSP to improve the image. See it on the web at http://www.bentwaters.org/, select the Bentwaters button, then ACTIVE ERA, AGE-2.
